Arctic Insights: FAQs for Your 78° North Experience

We are the most northern Coliving in the world and have two properties in Longyearbyen, the main town in Svalbard 10 minutes from the airport with free pickup:

1. “Hollywood Hills”: Located a few minutes’ walk from the town center with stunning views over the bay and a big kitchen.
2. “Polar Bear Lodge”: Situated in the heart of the town center with the Coworking and a small kitchen in the same building.

The two properties are exactly 1km apart.

Longyearbyen (Svalbard) has its own airport with the code LYR. Its only 10 minutes away from the Coliving and we will personally pick you up and welcome you to the arctic.

There are direct flights from Oslo and Tromso in Norway. Some flights from Oslo have a short stopover in Tromso. The flight time from Oslo is about 3 hours with SAS or Norwegian.

Either in Oslo or Tromso you will pass through the EU Schengen border. Svalbard itself is visa-free.

We offer stays from October to December. You can book for as little as a week or for the entire period, subject to availability.

While you can express a preference, room allocation depends on availability due to our limited capacity of 7 rooms total.

All bathrooms are shared. We kindly ask all guests to maintain cleanliness and be considerate of others, ensuring a pleasant experience for everyone in our coliving community.

Your stay includes accommodation, airport pickup/dropoff, access to our shared workspaces, high-speed internet (100+ Mbit/s), and participation in our community activities. Some external activities may incur additional costs with our local guides.

Yes, we have a fantastic dedicated coworking space located in our Polar Lodge property. While it’s a short and scenic 1km walk from our Hollywood Hills location, it’s open to all our guests. The coworking space offers a great opportunity to change your work environment, mingle with other digital nomads, and enjoy the heart of Longyearbyen.

Yes, we have screens available for rent. This can be particularly useful if you need an extended display for your work. Please let us know in advance if you’d like to rent a screen during your stay.

Once you’ve booked, we’ll send you a comprehensive list of essentials. Generally, you’ll need warm clothing for outdoor activities, personal toiletries, and any special dietary items you might need. We provide warm overalls for specific guided tours.

Yes, both properties have kitchen facilities. The “Hollywood Hills” house has a large, fully-equipped kitchen, while the Lodge has a smaller kitchen.

Expect temperatures ranging from -5°C to -20°C (23°F to -4°F). The polar night begins in late October, bringing 24-hour darkness.

While Northern Lights are common in Svalbard during this period, they’re a natural phenomenon and can’t be guaranteed. We organize aurora watching activities to maximize your chances of seeing them.

We recommend travel insurance that covers Arctic conditions and potential evacuations. Check with your provider about specific coverage for Svalbard.

Svalbard itself is visa-free for all nationalities with no maximum stay.

However, you’ll need to be able to enter the Schengen Area multiple times, as you’ll likely transit through Oslo, Norway. Make sure you have the necessary visa or meet the entry requirements for Norway/EU before booking your trip to Svalbard.

The visa must allow multiple-entry! The time spend in our Coliving is not counting against your available Schengen days!

Yes, but always follow local guidelines. Be aware of polar bear risks – never leave town without a trained guide.

Moving within Longyearbyen by yourself is no problem.

Many activities are organized by our community manager Sofia. For specialized Arctic adventures, we partner with Spitzbergen Reisen, a team of experienced local guides.
